WordPress Theme deFusion 0.8

12. September 2008 in WordPress Themes 153 Kommentare

A newer Version is available!

    Nice theme, but the dropdowns on the horizontal menu are offset and do not work in IE

    First of all let me say “Thank You” for this awesome free theme! We are redesigning our church site and moving it from Joomla to Wordpress since we all know that Wordpress is just awesome as well.

    I am using a test site for it currently at http://www.test.tlcyouthgroup.com. I am having some issues with the menu in Internet Explorer 7. I’m not a huge fan of IE but tons of people use it so I must make it work with it. It works perfectly in FireFox and Google Chrome.

    Do you have any suggestions? http://www.test.tlcyouthgroup.com

    Hello again, sorry I’m not trying to spam your comments but I did try your preview for this theme in IE and the menu is doing the same thing it is doing with my test site.

    Seems when you hover over a page that has sub pages the sub pages on the menu are not click-able.

    Just wanted to clear up my problem to you. Any help would be awesome!!

    I’m a bit new to this installing a Blog business … but I finally got round to installing WordPress on my site. the deFusion template is by far the best of the templates available on the Wordpress Themes site … looks great! my only issues is that I can’t seem to get it to load properly?! It shows up in my Available Themes but when I try to initiate it the page just goes blank. I have changed permissions to be able to edit the files but nada … has anyone else had problems? Or is it just my inexperience on WordPress?

    cheers

    im having a problem with the comment text spacing in firefox 3, safari 3 where after you submit the comment and the message “your comment is in moderation” is being displayed below the bottom of the comment bubble.

  • dan
    26. September 2008

    ok i found the fix, it should look like this,

    comment_approved == ‘0′) : ?>
    Your comment is awaiting moderation.

    26. September 2008

    @Nick @Straderade:

    Thanks for pointing this out! I’ll try to fix that and let you know asap.

    @rick:

    Actually you are the first who reports this kind of issue. Could you give some details? Is my theme the only theme on your installation that does not work?

    @dan:

    Thanks for reporting that! That’s definately a bug. I’ll fix that in the next version of deFusion.

  • webdemar
    26. September 2008

    @dan:

    To make it look nicer put the following in the comments.php:

    34
    35
    36
    37
    38
    39
    40
    41

    <div class="quote">
      <?php if ($comment->comment_approved == '0') : ?>
          <p><em>Your comment is awaiting moderation.</em></p>
      <?php endif; ?>
      <?php echo get_avatar( $comment, 64 ); ?>
      <?php comment_text() ?>
      <div class="clear"></div>
    </div>

    Thanks anyway!

    Thank you for your quick response and concern. I am just really enjoying the template!

    When do you expect a newer version and/or a fix for the drop-down menu in IE?

  • webdemar
    26. September 2008

    @Straderade:

    I’m testing it right now! But since I have to do it on a non-intel mac it is not so easy :-| But I think I’ll fix it soon.

    26. September 2008

    Hey, I love this template….I really wanna use it, but may not be able to use it because the wp-threaded-coments plugin doesnt work.

    I get the error “ERROR: Can’t find the ‘quote’ div.

    have you tested the wp threaded comments plugin with this, or do you know of a threaded comments plugin that works with this theme.

    Here is where I got the plugin I’d like to use…it’s the standard WP plugin

    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-thread-comment/

  • webdemar
    26. September 2008

    @Stace:

    Thanks for using the theme!

    You have to change the id of the div in admin > settings > WP Thread Comment > Edit Comment Form ID. It has to be ‘commentform’.

    Then it will work. But still you will have to change the css of the form and the comments to make it look good.

    I hope these issues are fixed by now. Just uploaded the new version to the theme directory. It’s now pending a review.

    Hello again. Thanks for the update – so far working in IE. Can you please tell us what file(s) you changed? Reason being i have already made some huge changes to the old template and if you only edited certain files I will not have to copy and paste everything, or would you recommend I do?

    Webdmar – still having some issues with the Nav. Menu in the new updated version.

    Here are some screen shots:
    http://test.tlcyouthgroup.com/images/menuglitch_1.jpg
    You see that when in IE(i hate IE) it will display two menus at the same time

    http://test.tlcyouthgroup.com/images/menuglitch_2.jpg
    You will see here while in IE that the menu will say open after rolling over the ‘Ministries’ tab and will not close unless you click somethign on the menu – it dose not do that in Firefox or Chrome

    Also, the footer, in IE(of course) is messing up at times upon refreasing the page >> http://test.tlcyouthgroup.com/images/footerglitch_1.jpg

    Again, thanks for this theme, just a couple more tweaks i’m not sure how to fix.

    So I’ve uploaded the new 0.8.6 and still no joy … I just get a blank page when I try to use it as a current theme … I got a feeling it’s an XML problem ‘cos when I go to look at the source this is all I get:

    <html xmlns=”http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml”

    with the last set of brackets in red. All the other themes I’ve uploaded seem to work OK – the rather dull pre-installed Kubrick is Ok and I have been succesful loading up Mandingo & Voodoo Empire…both rather icky when you look at them!

    I just can’t get one I want to use working (i.e. deFusion!)

    Is there something laughably simple/stupid I’m doing/not doing?

    BTW – my set up (just in case it’s relevant) I’m using an Intel Mac Pro and using Firefox 3.0. I’ll leave the blog set to the deFusion template so you can see the source code yourself:

    http://www.ingozi.com/blog/

    Obviously it’s just a big white page at the moment!

    cheers

  • webdemar
    28. September 2008

    @rick:

    a lot of the newer themes (such as deFusion) call the language_attributes() function, which has been added to WordPress in 2.1 if I remember right.

    With 2.0 you’re running a rather old one. I would recommend an Update to the latest Version of WordPress to solve your problem.

    Let me know if it works. Good luck!

  • rick

    thank you for your support and hard work on this!!

  • webdemar
    29. September 2008

    @Straderade:

    Just did some tests and asked a couple of people to check the theme in IE. They can’t see any issues neither with the dropdown nor in the footer. And they testet on your test installation as well. For them seems to be okay. And I do not know what to fix any more.

    Maybe you can install a fresh version of the theme to double check. I regret that I can’t help any more. :-|

    29. September 2008

    I installed this theme a few days ago and it worked fine. But today all I get is a blank white screen with no output.

    Other themes work fine. I hope you can fix this because it is a great theme!

  • webdemar
    30. September 2008

    @Rob:

    tried to reach your site this morning. It loads for a long time and then… blank page. This is probably not a problem of the theme. Do you have any server problems?

    After reload I got a ‘500 Internal Server Error’. This could be server or .htaccess.

  • Rob C, UK
    30. September 2008

    Thanks for looking anyway. I’m pretty sure it was the theme that was the problem because when I switched to a default theme the site worked.

    I was having separate server problems too.

    Anyway I’ve switched to one of your other themes and I’m very happy with it.

  • Bruno
    1. Oktober 2008

    hi.. ive just installed deFusion! great theme, but is it possible to align-left the contents? instead of the default center-aligned?

    like this: http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/55985/defusion_alignleft.jpg

  • webdemar
    1. Oktober 2008

    @Bruno:

    To align the layout to the left open the style.css and change the margin of #page as follows:

    59
    60
    61
    62

    #page {
    	width: 940px;
    	margin: 0;
    }

    I just replaced margin: 0 auto; with margin: 0;

    To have a little space between the ‘page’ and the left border of the browser you could add a margin-left as follows:

    59
    60
    61
    62

    #page {
    	width: 940px;
    	margin: 0 0 0 10px; /* top right bottom left */
    }

    Hey, nice theme so far, it does what I need. Well mostly. How can I have it display the author name on each post?

  • Bruno
    1. Oktober 2008

    Thank you very much! thats it.. damn so easy! but im not used to this. so…

  • webdemar
    1. Oktober 2008

    @Zythrix:

    To display the author of each post add the following to the div.meta in index.php, archive.php, search.php and single.php right behind the meta-comments span or where you like (inside the loop):

    21

    <span class="meta-author">written by: <?php the_author(); ?></span>

    1. Oktober 2008

    Hi, I just wanted to know how you would go about adding an image to the header instead of the text that is there now. If you could help I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.
    (Great theme by the way)

  • webdemar
    1. Oktober 2008

    @Charles:

    To add your logo you have to open the header.php and replace the h1-blogtitle and the h2-blogdescription with your image.

    Replace:

    34
    35

    <h1><a href="<? bloginfo('url'); ?>"><? bloginfo('name'); ?></a></h1>
    <h2 id="blog-description"><? bloginfo('description'); ?></h2>

    with:

    34

    <img id="logo" src="url-to-your-img.gif" width="200" height="50" alt="" />

    Please put your image url and the width and height of your logo.

    Then add the following somewhere to the style.css:

    #logo {
    	position: absolute;
    	bottom: 60px;
    	left: 0px;
    	margin: 0px;
    	padding: 0px;
    	font-size: 11px;
    	font-weight: normal;
    }

    Hope this helps.

    hi! how can i remove the borders from resized/thumbnail images? and ive tryed to add a home link to the sidebar.php! but it doesnt appears, do you know how to do that?

  • webdemar
    2. Oktober 2008

    @Bruno:

    Could you give some details? Normally there are no borders on the images unless they have a caption.

    To add a link to the home page of the blog just add the following:

    <?php bloginfo('url'); ?>

    Where in the sidebar do you want to put it? Because if you have widgets in use, you would have to put it right before:

    22
    23

    <?php if ( !function_exists('dynamic_sidebar')
            || !dynamic_sidebar() ) : ?>

    for example like this:

    22
    23
    24
    25
    26
    27
    28
    29
    30

    <div class="box-right">

      <h4>Home</h4>

        <ul>
          <a href="<?php bloginfo('url'); ?>">Go to Home Page</a>
        </ul>

    </div>

    Thanks!

  • webdemar
    2. Oktober 2008

    @Matt:

    By default there are no comments on pages. But you can call the comments template on a page without problems. Put it right before the endwhile in page.php.

    23
    24

    <?php comments_template(); ?>
    <?php endwhile; ?>

    Double check if comments are allowed > Manage > Pages > Your Page > Comments & Pings.

    Hope I could help.

    I have an issue that I keep noticing. In my posts sometimes I will have a large blank spaces mixed in with the text. When I refresh, it’s gone or moved to somewhere else. It’s totally random where it places it and sometimes it’s not there at all. It happens in both Firefox and IE.

    thanks webdemar!! it worked just fine, i did noticed that ive missed something.

    btw. is it possible to change the background-color/hilite color of the widgets title on the sidebar? ive tryed to change the “h4 { background-color: black;}” but it changes the whole line background, and not only the text! is it possible to highlite only the text/title? ex: categories or arquive.

    Hello,

    thanks for the nice free theme!

    I use the plugin chess by blog (http://www.levork.org/cbb/), and the problem is that in deFusion the chess boards are simply not being displayed. The problem does not occur for example with WordPress Classic 1.5. Can you help me with that, or is that a question the author of the plugin should answer?

  • webdemar
    6. Oktober 2008

    @Zythrix:

    After writing a post have a look in the code. In some posts I saw empty divs or thing like that:

    <p>&nbsp;</p>
    <p>&nbsp;</p>
    <p>&nbsp;</p>
    <p>&nbsp;</p>
    <p>&nbsp;</p>
    <p>&nbsp;</p>
    <p>&nbsp;</p>
    <p>&nbsp;</p>

    Keep the Code a bit cleaner and you won’t have any problems.

    @Bruno:

    To change the text color of the sidebar titles put the following in the style.css:

    136
    137
    138
    139
    140

    h4 {
    	margin: 0 0 10px 0;
    	font-size: 12px;
    	color: #000; /* now black - change here */
    }

    #Kai:

    I’m afraid I can’t help you here. Please ask the plugin author if there are some special requirements.

    @ Steve:

    The blog title and the tagline that are set in Settings > General Settings should appear as the page title. Maybe you’re running a plugin that rewrites the title (e.g. All in One SEO Pack)?

    hi webdemar!
    well.. im trying to change the background color of the text, and not the text color. sorry for my bad english.
    i want to try something like this: http://www.w3schools.com/Css/tryit.asp?filename=trycss_text_background

    but instead, i got this: http://www.w3schools.com/Css/tryit.asp?filename=trycss_background-color

    background-color fills all header and not only the text. is it possible to use background color for only the text?

  • Kai Witte
    6. Oktober 2008

    Thanks for the quick reply. I added a call to wp_footer() to footer.php. That fixed it.

    Kai

  • webdemar
    6. Oktober 2008

    @Bruno:

    now I get your point ;-) sorry for that. The h4 title is a block element. So it takes the full width of the outer box. To change the background of the text instead of the whole block element you would need to do the following.

    Add this to your style.css:

    141
    142
    143

    h4 span {
    	background: yellow; /* change color here */
    }

    Now, we need to wrap the text of the h4 headlines in the sidebar.php with a span:

    27

    <h4><span>Categories</span></h4>

    If you have widgets in use, open the functions.php and replace line 10 & 11 with:

    10
    11

    'before_title' => '<h4><span>',
    'after_title' => '</span></h4>'

    Hope everything works now :-)

    Everything is going great except the comment bubble doesn’t display properly in IE7 ( this can also be seen on your orginal template here http://webdemar.com/demo/category1/subcategory1/an-image-in-a-post/#comments) The text appears to be too far down and the posted by and date on the bottom of the comment bubble rides too high. You Said:
    After writing a post have a look in the code. In some posts I saw empty divs or thing like that.
    —-

    After checking, there is no extra code to clean up and the large gaps aren’t in the same place each time. Every time I refresh it’s in a different spot. Rogue code can’t do that. It happens in both IE and Firefox. You see what I’m saying?

    Normall, a post would look like this:

    blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah

    —- but instead I’ll get large random gaps —-

    blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah

    blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
    —————-

    It messes up my content.

  • webdemar
    7. Oktober 2008

    @Zythrix:

    I see what you mean. But I’m afraid I cannot help you here, because the content is generated by WordPress itself. In the theme I just call the function the_content(). So your issue is probably not a problem of the theme.

    I’ve modified the sidebar.php file, I tried to add a widget after that, but then I guess it uses a completely different file and everything I’ve done is gone, so I’m just copying source and putting it into my code, as I can’t put everything b4 the dynamic sidebar code. It seems to be working fine (for the search, anyway) but it would be cool if you could add widgets anywhere in the sidebar.

    My last question (for now) is, where do I modify the image settings so border=”0″ (in firefox, always has to be specified in ff)? A writer put in an image that’s a link and it’s got a border around it…

    Thanks for the version tip, that totally fixed it, I had suspected as much, but didn’t have access to the server.

  • webdemar
    11. Oktober 2008

    @Wendy:

    The widgets schould work just fine as you can see in the demo. Everything you put before the dynamic sidebar code will be displayed even if widgets are in use. The stuff you put below will be replace by the widgets.

    I guess I just forgot to put the follwing into the stylesheet to get rid of the image link border:

    41
    42
    43

    a img {
    	border: none;
    }

    Hi, I am trying to add an affiliate banner in my blog. I am new to this so I am not sure where to add it. I want to place it where the Links section is in the sidebar. I have tried to change the name of the Links section by changing Links to Sponsors but that didn’t work.

    So to sum up I am trying to:
    1. Change the name of Links to sponsored
    2. Place an ad under links (is it possible to change the size of this is as well?)

    Hello again =)

    Just wondering, how do I make it show the full posts when I go to a Category page? Right now, when I click on a category, it just shows the title of each post.

    Thank you =).

  • Zythrix
    12. Oktober 2008

    One more, I noticed when I view a Category, the list of posts gets narrower as a I scroll down.

    ie:

    texttexttexttexttext
    texttexttexttext
    texttexttext
    texttext
    text
    tt

    like so, but aligned on the right. Is this something in the theme I can change? I’m very new to WordPress and not all too seasoned with CMS/Blog in general.

    Thank you!

    My only problem is the name and date on the comments bar are on the edge and unreadable.

    I just started out with the original SS file and did it over. Maybe I accidentally changed something while copying&pasting. Hi,

    I am using the defusion theme and I was wondering how to put a banner ad (standard size) into the header?

  • webdemar
    17. Oktober 2008

    @Jonny:

    To add a banner to the header put another div into the header-div as follows:

    51

    <div id="ad-banner">Put your code here</div>

    To position the banner to your needs add this to your CSS:

    164
    165
    166
    167
    168

    #ad-banner {
    	position: absolute;
    	top: 75px;
    	right: 0px;
    }

    Play around with top and right position if you like. Hope this helps :-)

    This might seem like a stupid question… But I downloaded the folder and then opened it in firefox and it keeps showing up with all these php errors…

    Ex. The function get_header(); on line 1 of index.php

    Any ideas anyone?

    This is not a problem of the theme. Please find this manual to learn how to install a WordPress Theme.

    Open the style.css > section GENERAL > body:

    11px is the font size and 18px the line height.

    Scratch that last question, I got around my sidebar order stuff by moving things around, and it’s working well, so I am able to use the widgets instead of all that code I was putting in. I do have a question about displaying subcategory headers for links in the blogroll, right now I’m defining subcategories to correspond to the links, and I haven’t got it working properly yet. I wanted to make sure that this theme will display subcategories in the blogroll if I do it right.

  • EasyTarget
    31. Oktober 2008

    Hi, I’d love to thank you for an awsome theme, I’ve really enjoyed playing with it (and wordpress, all new to me) making a new site for our club, the results are at: http://ehdc.nl/

    I also hit the IE7 stoopid menu’s issue, but have found a (sort-of) solution and discussion here:
    http://www.webmasterworld.com/css/3209329.htm
    http://www.builtfromsource.com/2006/10/23/a-fix-for-suckerfish-dropdowns-in-ie-7/

    Two solutions are suggested; the basic idea seems to be that IE7 cannot handle having the ‘title=’ attribute for links what are rendered outside of the parent (this menu ‘drops down’ below the header ). They suggest setting the ‘position: static;’ for the element in CSS. Or removing the ‘title=’ attribute in the < a href="..."> tag.

    So I tried adding ‘position: fixed;’ in the nav.css, after line 73. That looks like it is working until you scroll the page and then move over the menu (or scroll the page with the mousewheel while the menu is open). The menu box stays fixed in position. Setting it to ‘relative’ or ’static’ causes even more problems, neat effects; just not good for a menu..

    Next I tried changing line 416 of …/wp-includes/template-functions-post.php to prevent the function from setting the “title=” attribute for returned page references, but that had no visible effect (and the title was still being set in the menu items). I’m a pretty poor programmer and a total PHP novice so I’m hardly surprised; I strongly suspect that is the wrong function call anyway :-S

    Another solution would be to move the menu out of the header and into the page page itself, but I could not get that to work acceptably, and abandoned it as a solution.

    So finally:, my brute force solution works, I made …/js/dropdowns.js look like this:

    !--//--><!--

    sfHover = function() {
    var ie7 = (document.all && !window.opera && window.XMLHttpRequest) ? true : false;
    if (!ie7) {
    var sfEls = document.getElementById("nav").getElementsByTagName("LI");
    for (var i=0; i

    Which effectively disables the dropdown effect in IE; (It still works in FireFox on windows and Linux, I don’t have access to chrome, safari or opera to check their results..)
    I figure by making the page structure good (with correct links between pages in their bodies) and having the subpages listed in the rt-hand panels, the IE users will be able to navigate, and probably won’t realise they are missing anything.
    - If they do notice I can encourage them to change by saying ‘look;, with a less buggy browser you could have fancy menus!’

    The one thing lacking is the IE7 detection statement, the one used above is the best I could find (without resorting to a highly complex object-based browser detection script functions, most of which are hundreds of lines long..) but if anyone can implement a better way of doing this it would make a great improvement.

    Once again, thanks for the theme, it’s awesome

    John, to make the text bigger just go to Design/Theme editor/style sheet and adjust the font sizes upward. Under “body” I set the font to 13px/20px. The other fonts seem too small too so I increased their size. I shifted the side bar by taking pixels from #content-Right and adding them to #content-Left

    make blog categories a subcategory of blogroll?
    Is there any way I can make my blog categories behave as individual headers within a block called “related links”, instead of displaying in separate blocks? I’ve seen this on many wordpress blogs, but can’t figure out how to do it. I am using the widget right now, but could put in code if that’s easier. Even pointing me in the right direction would be helpful. I see a ton of questions about how to do this in forums, but none of them get answered!

    Hi, I’m using your great and clean theme for my personal website (www.lucafarinella.it). I’m having a problem with the navbar dropdown menus (under portfolio) overlapping with the h3 attributes in my blog.
    What I’m doing wrong?
    Thanks in advance, for any kind response.

  • webdemar
    4. November 2008

    @luca:

    This could be an interference with one of your plugins. Moreover there is an error in your source code. Check the quotation marks here:

    <link rel=”icon” type=”image/png” href="favicon.ico” />
    <link rel="pingback" href="http://www.lucafarinella.it/xmlrpc.php" />

    You could also put a z-index on the dropdown menu in nav.css as follows:

    42
    43
    44

    #nav li ul {
    	z-index: 100;
    	}

    Hope this helps :-)

    Hi Again,
    Thanks so much! I can’t post a url yet cause it’s not my content, but if I stop using the links widget and put this in the sidebar:

    <div class=”box-right”>

    <h4>Related sites</h4>

    <ul>
    <?php wp_list_bookmarks(‘title_li=&categorize=1′); ?>
    </ul>

    </div>
    It does what I want it to do, displays the categories as subheads under related links, but the category headers are indented, and the font size is too large. I can’t find where to control them.

    Does that make any sense?

    Thanks again,
    Wendy

  • webdemar
    5. November 2008

    @luca:

    It is not a question of stupidity! We all had to learn that :-)

    You have two different types of quotation marks:

    <link rel=”icon” type=”image/png” href="favicon.ico” />
    <link rel="pingback" href="http://www.lucafarinella.it/xmlrpc.php" />

    You have

    and you have

    Change them all to the second type. That’s it!

    Hi, I am using this lovely theme for my photoblog site. Thanks for the great design!

    I have one small issue and I don’t know how to resolve it. When my pages displays, they show a piece of code on the browser title bar instead of the blog name. This also shows in google as the page title.

    If you view my link you will see what I mean. :)

      Hi matt,

      probably your server cannot read the php open tag <?

      Open the theme file header.php and replace all these tags in the html title <?php

      For example replace

      <? bloginfo('name'); ?>

      with

      <?php bloginfo('name'); ?>

      and so on. That should do it :-)

    I think I will download 0.9, now I seem to have somehow made my post background black instead of white. Odd.
